Exhibition: 'LIFE as we see it'

I and a numer of my artist colleagues will be exhibiting at Taurus Crafts, Lydney, Gloucestershire, starting this coming Saturday, May 6th, with a preview opening at 2.00 pm. . All the details can be found on the Taurus Crafts website.
I was very pleased to have one of my drawings chosen by Taurus Crafts for the exhibition poster. I was particularly flattered as it is not a straightforward representation of a standard pose. In fact it represents one of my own peculiar and idiosyncratic fascinations whereby I juxtapose either two opposing views of the same pose or bring together and synthesise parts of two poses. This example selected for the poster is of the later.
It is an A1 drawing on 220gsm cartridge paper. Starting with a graphite pencil in each hand (hence a recent nickname of '2-pencil-bob') I then introduce some tinted charcoal and some further stronger mark-making with a softer graphite pencil in my dominant right hand.

At 'extreme poses' in Stroud with Robin up in the ropes. She modelled for Paul Fowler's Extreme Poses for the first time in about September 2011 and has been a regular ever since. This blog records all my drawings of her starting in those early days with charcoal on cartridge paper, charcoal on gesso treated cartridge paper, some fine-liner pen work, and the occasional journey into pastel and conte. However, for me the medium is fairly irrelevant when compared to the value of getting to know a model and journeying way beyond simply representing her on paper to a level of response which is more a representation of my feelings. Here are five 30 minute poses, each started with both my hands holding a graphite pencil in each, on A1 220gsm cartridge paper.

I was ready to follow last Tuesday's satisfying morning with Sarah in the same pose, but she was poorly and Andrea took her place, and I enjoyed the outcome.
The first is a 5 minute gesture drawing of Andrea stretched out on the floor below me. There is also a construction from the three other five minte poses. For the other two I moved back and forth across the studio to view the model from both sides.
