Virtual life-drawing in June: Nos 4

As this is the only life-drawing I'm doing at the moment ( Monday evenings) it would seem my frustrations are building up and as a consequence I became a little more intuitively expressive. However it appears my recent approaches are still relevant and taken an incremental stage further.
I am drawing Andrew who has set up this virtual life-drawing series.
The first is from the first three poses of 5 minutes, 5 minutes and 20 minutes.
Then on to Andrew as he sat high upon a ladder to achieve extreme foreshortening, which worked well. He had to adjust position half way through so this drawing includes the adjustments.
Finally, what has become a typical kind of response of mine as I select parts I like and they then morph together as the process evolves.

Virtual life-drawing in June: Nos 3

Andrew introduced Fra, a new model to me.
Fra offered two 5 minute poses, one 20 minute pose, one 30 minute pose, followed by a portrait pose.
I set up my easel close alongside the tv screen which I connected to my lap top. I am seated no more than 18 inches from both, so a feeling of intimate connectedness with the model.

I repeated the sequence of responses from the previous virtual sessions run by Andrew.

Firstly my layered approach in which I attempt to superimpose the first sequence of short poses. This is using fine-liner pens on A1 white cartridge paper. I am aiming to explore transparency, depth, spatiality, flow of forms.

In the next two I entered my approach of drawing the anatomical part which first attracts. Then adding the next, and gradually a narrative of sorts emerges which sets up a strategy for encompassing the complete pose. Lately, I seem to want to include a glance of the face, the result of which it appears to emerge from within a larger part of the figure. In these I have a graphite pencil in each hand, 2B or 3B, then I go in at certain points of emphasis with perhaps a 6B in my dominant hand.

Finally on this occasion we had a portrait opportunity. Head and shoulder. Referring back to one of my rules, i.e. avoid, when drawing a face, the full set of two eyes, one nose and one mouth. Unless you get it absolutely realistically correct then the eye of the beholder is drawn to any imperfection in your drawing, to the deterement of probably ignoring the rest of the drawing. Here, although in the actual drawing I did suggest a reference to the left eye I have decided in the cropping to avoid the left eye. This basically a fine-liner pen drawing with some tinted charcoal caressed with the finger, and a few lines of willow charcoal.

Virtual life-drawing in June: Nos 2

With Antonia on June 8th.

Started with three quick poses in which I employed my often followed approach of moving across the paper with some overlap and superimposing. The challenge is not knowing what is coming next, but soon a sort of narrative starts to emerge and compositional and relational issues arise which are then addressed

Then on to two longer poses of about 30 minutes each.

5 virtual sessions in June: Nos 1

Andrew Buckley has set up a programme of five, Monday evening, Zoom sessions during June. He will model along with two female models.
This is the first with Andrew modelling on Monday June 1st.
